It's the 2005 Mendip Citizen Award
[10 November 2004]
DO you know someone whose community spirit and enthusiasm inspires others to put something back into their local group or neighbourhood?
The first ever Mendip Citizen Award has been announced this week. It is a new award from the District Council which recognises and honours contribution to community life in and around the District of Mendip.
Explaining the award, Mendip Council Leader Cllr Ken Maddock said:
“Our communities rely on people who give up their time and energy for others. They might be helping some of our older folk, or working with our youths in groups or sports clubs. They may be involved in helping others who are less able to help themselves. We want to find the Mendip Citizen of 2005 and are asking for the help of our residents in tracking down this person.
The criteria for the award indicates that the Mendip Citizen Award will honour the leading resident who has made a particular contribution to community life, either individually or through an organisation within the Mendip District Council area.
The overall winner will be presented with £1,000 which will go to his or her organisation.
There are two ways to make nominations. An organisation may nominate an individual for the award as a representative of that organisation. Alternatively, an individual resident may nominate someone they know.
