New Lease of Life for the Crown
[10/11/2004]
A MAJOR building in the centre of Frome will be the last to benefit from the Heritage Economic Regeneration grant scheme which finishes next March. The Crown Hotel is a Grade II listed building in the town centre which has stood empty for the past 12 years.
Many other Frome buildings have received funding through this scheme and the acceptance of a significant grant offer by Jason Warmisham, owner and developer of The Crown Hotel will reinstate the hotel with nine ensuite bedrooms, a function room and a large ground-floor bar.
Much of the original fabric of the seventeenth century building survives at the rear of the property. This area will be protected by a temporary roof, funded by the grant, which is targeted at the recording and repair of specific items which might otherwise not be retained.
Wolstenholme and Partners are supervising the work with Adrian Brown providing structural engineering advice.
