Harness Racing Makes An Exciting Return To The South West.
2nd May 2006.
|
Whether you believe the sports origins began with the Romans and their chariot races or the earliest recorded race on Newmarket Heath in 1750, Harness Racing is one of the most exciting sports that very little is known about. In fact it must be one of the best kept secrets in the sporting calendar.
Harness Racing has a huge following in the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe, and in the UK it is a traditional sport that draws spectators far and wide. It may not be the World Cup, it may not have been televised on TV and it may not be as big as Ascot ..... yet, but the excitement and energy that this traditional sport offers is something not to be missed!
On Sunday 18th June 2006 after a long absence from the South West sporting calendar, Harness Racing makes a welcome return and it's debut takes place at the North Somerset Showground, in Wraxall, near Bristol.
With support from the British Harness Racing Club and competitors competing for prize money and trophies, it will prove to be a great day out, especially for those backing their favourite runners and riders and walking away with a win or two firmly placed in their back pockets.
And it's not only 'a day at the races' that is on offer. There will be a traditional Country Fayre with every stall you can imagine. From arts and crafts to a bygone days kitchen, from jewellery to aromatherapy and essential oils, from garden plants and landscaping to country pine garden furniture and ornaments. You'll find something that will grab your attention.
There will be many family attractions that will fascinate children and keep them busy. And keep the parents and grandparents out of mischief too! From pets corner to dog agility, heavy horse driving and falconry demonstrations to vintage tractors, a children's fairground and even a children's quiz.
Of course there will be licensed betting, great country food and licensed bars plus the chance to win a car. All in all this event will prove to be a great day out for all the family.
